A Detroit physician has had her medical license suspended for overprescribing controlled substances, according state officials.

The Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) says Detroit physician Charise Lanette Valentine allegedly prescribed the substances for reasons other than therapeutic  or diagnostic purposes.

According to LARA, Valentine was a top prescriber of oxymorphone and oxycodone, which are commonly abused substances, in 2017 and the beginning of 2018.

The suspension is temporary and does not determine that the person has violated the Public Health Code, LARA says.

Anyone who is concerned a health professional may be risking public health is encouraged to file a complaint.
