Northville Township on alert after a man is spotted trying to break into homes around the community.

A man wearing a ski mask and gloves has been captured on cameras trying to make his way inside a home that isn't his.

"There's a better path in life than that," said resident Tony Adamo. "It's upsetting but hopefully it is a one-time occurrence."

Northville Township police shared security video of at least two instances in which a man tries to get into homes in neighborhoods off Six Mile between Sheldon and Beck.

"Terrified, I don't want that to happen to me or my family," said resident Aubin Toma. "I just feel nervous sleeping at night."

Investigators say they don't think this would-be burglar got in but it looks like he tried, most recently between 2:30 and 3 a.m. Friday.

Police are saying you shouldn't trust unlocked doors on homes or on cars.

"I come out and the car was on all four blocks set up and all the wheels missing," said resident Jack Stiteler. "I was like what the heck happened."

Jack found his car like that almost a year and a half ago, so he put up cameras.

"My understanding is they never caught the person, but they haven't been back," he added.

In this recent rash of incidents, this man is caught on camera and with thousands looking at him now, the dark clothes, ski mask and gloves won't hide him from the law.

Police are reminding residents to keep doors locked, their outdoor lights on at night and pay attention, even for out of place noises.  They have stepped up patrols in the area if you see anything suspicious give them a call at (248) 349-9400.
