One person was killed and two others were hurt Tuesday afternoon when the driver of a pickup truck plowed into a bus stop in Detroit. A passerby recorded the aftermath of the fatal crash.

"He just plowed into them, and I actually saw the guy try to run and he hit him and he flew," said John Flounory.

The man driving the pickup truck drifted into the wrong lane on Dexter Avenue just north of Davison, before plowing into the bus stop and hitting the three people. The two survivors are in stable condition.

"I made sure nobody moved so there wouldn't be any more injuries," Flounory said. "The female had lacerations across her face."

Flounory, a home health care worker, was one of the first at the scene. Two people were injured and one man, a fixture in this west side neighborhood, was killed. FOX 2 is not identifying him because it is unclear if his family has been notified.

"It hurts to find somebody you talked to two minutes and they walk away and five minutes later you hear this," said Michael King, who knew the man killed.

"My heart is so broken to hear that that happened to him because he was such a nice guy," said Rev. Richard White III, Dexter Avenue Baptist Church.

The crash happened in front of Dexter Avenue Baptist Church. White says the man killed in the accident would perform odd jobs in and around the church building. He attended a gospel music concert there on Sunday.

"He came down and he asked us to pray for him and I'm so glad we took the time to pray for him," White said.

That driver is in custody. A witness told FOX 2 they believe the man may have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol but police have not confirmed that.

"Our hearts go out to our passengers who were struck at one of our bus stops today by an apparently intoxicated motorist. The entire DDOT family shares in the pain and grief they feel. We pray of the healing of those who were so badly injured and for the family and loved ones of the passenger who lost his life in this tragic accident. We stand ready to assist the Detroit Police Department any way we can as they conduct their investigation," a statement from DDOT Director Angelica Jones reads.
