City Council President Sheffield announces run for mayor of Detroit

It wasn't the best kept secret, but on Tuesday night, Detroit City Council President Mary Sheffield formally announced her bid for mayor. Sheffield is the first to become an official candidate in what's expected to be a crowded field in 2025.

She was joined by family, community leaders, and familiar faces -- including Judge Greg Mathis and Angela Yee.

Sheffield hopes to become the first woman and youngest to serve as mayor.

After her event, FOX 2 spoke with her one-on-one about what this moment meant.
