Detroit woman accused of stealing Tesla from dealership, running from police
DETROIT (FOX 2) - A 20-year-old Detroit woman is facing charges after she allegedly stole a Tesla, ran from police, and gave officers false information when she was finally caught.
Areyon Niley McKay is charged with fleeing to elude, unlawful driving away in a motor vehicle, furnishing false information to a police officer, and having an altered driver's license.
Troy police were called just before 7 p.m. Monday because a Tesla was stolen from a car dealership.
Michigan State Police troopers found the Tesla exiting I-75 onto Rochester Road and tried to stop it. McKay is accused of fleeing and leading police on a chase that eventually ended with a PIT maneuver on Vernier near the I-94 Service Drive.
McKay was given a $20,000 cash/surety bond.
