PONTIAC, Mich. (FOX 2) - The Toyota Prius, Ford Super Duty, and Kia EV9 took home top awards at the annual car, truck, and utility vehicle of the year awards Thursday.
Beating out 52 total models which was narrowed down to 25 of the best earlier in 2023, the North American Car, Truck, and Utility Vehicle awards celebrate what officials call "new benchmarks" in the auto industry.
The winners were determined by a final vote of 50 NACTOY jurors which cast their ballots in December.
Toyota's Prius Prime is a new version of the automaker's popular hybrid model. Ford's Super Duty pickup truck continued to show dominance in their market, while Kia beat out the Genesis and Hyundai Kona in the utility vehicle world.
Last year's winners included the Acura Integra in the car of the year category, Ford F-150 Lightning in the truck category, and the Kia EV6 in the utility vehicle category.
This year's nominees for both car and utility vehicle awards were made up primarily of Japanese and Korean automakers. Meanwhile, Ford and General Motors dominated in the truck category.
