Aretha Franklin's 1972 Amazing Grace doc premieres tonight at DIA
DETROIT (FOX 2) - On what would have been Aretha Franklin's 77th birthday, an unseen documentary premieres Monday night at the Detroit Institute of Arts.
It is a party the way Aretha Franklin would have wanted it. The celebration of her life is coming together with the celebration of the release of Amazing Grace.
It is a documentary of the work she did in 1972 when she was at the LA Missionary Temple Baptist Church. Back then was when she was recording Amazing Grace footage was shot of her performing by Sydney Pollack.
Franklin, then 29, was captured on film in all of her gospel glory. Franklin died August 16, 2018.
"It's a wonderful soul-stirring movie," said Sabrina Owens, her niece.
FOX 2's Huel Perkins sat down with Aretha Franklin's youngest son and her most trusted niece. Watch the video above to learn more
