Ex-Royal Oak teacher, coach arrested for indecent exposure at Troy LA Fitness

TROY, Mich. (WJBK) - Troy police arrested a former Royal Oak tennis coach and teacher for indecent exposure after he was accused of masturbating while watching a man shower at LA Fitness last month.

Timothy Jankowiak, 48, was arrested and charged with aggravated indecent exposure on August 21. 

According to police, a 35-year-old man was at LA Fitness in Troy in the men's locker room that day. The man said he noticed a nude man watching him and masturbating in the locker room. The man confronted the suspect who left the area. 

The man said this wasn't the first time it's happened but he was unable to identify him previously. The victim followed the man out and confronted him before calling police. 

Prior to this incident, someone had torn down shower curtains from some of the stalls, police said.

Jankowiak lives in Berkley but was due to start teaching in Battle Creek this year, Troy police said. He had previously taught and coached tennis in Royal Oak. 

Royal Oak Public Schools released a statement regarding Jankowiak's arrest saying he resigned from the district in April as the school was investigating a report that the teacher sending inappropriate texts to a student.

The district said Royal Oak police and Child Protective Services were contacted and the teacher was immediately removed from the classroom.
