Clark Park student photography show runs through Thursday

DETROIT (WJBK) - The Detroit Clark Park Coalition teaches children community spirit and self-reliance, two traits M.L. Elrick often highlights in his series "Chapter Ten" celebrating Detroit heroes.

Clark Park is a place where kids learn about life through sports, computing, tutoring and so much more. Some talented young aspiring photographers have their own exhibit featured at the park this week.

The photography program started two years ago and with donations were able to purchase 10 professional cameras to allow the children to learn, according to Anahli Vasquez, who heads the coalition.

Ten students each semester learn the foundation of photography including angles, composition and technical details, Vasquez said. The next semester those students move on to the advanced class and a new batch of beginners join up.

Two standout students of the program, Isaiah Whitney and Naomi Barragan visit along with their photo exhibits to provide a sneak peak of the exhibit.

The student photography show is at the Brown & Ford Art Gallery, 1001 W. Fort Street, Detroit and runs from Tuesday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The program is independent and funded through donations, and it only happens because people reach into their pockets and their hearts.
