EB 696 reopened after car fire narrowed to one lane
Just before rush hour, a car caught fire on eastbound interstate 696 just after the 275 interchange, forcing the highway to close all lanes but one for about an hour.
Traffic was backed up for several miles at 696 just east of the 275 interchange. According to MDOT, a car on the highway caught fire just after 2:30 Thursday afternoon.
It's unknown if anyone is injured at this time.

Around 3:15, police and MDOT started opening more lanes of traffic and the two right lanes were open again.
By 3:30, the accident had been cleared and all lanes were moving again.
