Harper Woods home explosion victims upgraded to stable condition

Two victims who knocked on the door of a Harper Woods home that exploded late last week have been upgraded to stable condition.

Katy Wereley is still shaken up from the explosion Friday morning on the corner of Lennon and Harper. She owns the Mini Pacassos art studio next door.

"When I pulled up they said a woman got injured I thought I️t was my mom so I was shaking. They couldn't tell me who it was right away," she said.

It was a 33-year-old woman there to do an appraisal, along with a 66-year-old man.

"A gentleman was just laying there looking up at the sky in the middle of the rubble. It was really, really sad," said a witness.

They've been upgraded to stable condition and are expected to improve in the days to come, but that image of him is still etched in Ann Land's mind.

A third victim, a 36-year-old man who lives next door, was treated at an area hospital and released.

Investigators say preliminary findings indicate the house filled up with natural gas and then exploded when the male appraiser opened the front door.
