Macomb County begins bike drive today

Do you have a bike you're not using? You can donate them to Macomb County children in need.

The county is kicking off its first-ever bike drive Monday. Several groups, including the Macomb, YMCA, No Bike Left Behind and the Macomb County Executive Office have partnered for the effort.

Gently used bicycles will be collected throughout the fall. Over the winter a team of volunteers will work to restore the bikes, so they can be given to children in the spring.

"We've got a lot of great bike trails over here on the east side," said Melissa Roy, executive director of Advancing Macomb. "And so we thought, well, everybody should be able to enjoy the bike trails and some of the bike opportunities here. so we thought, well, you know, let's see who has an extra bike around town, collect them up and if we can fix them up.

All bike and monetary donations are tax deductible. here are the bike drop-off locations: The Sterling Heights Senior Center 40200 Utica Road, the Clinton Township Parks and Recreation Department 40700 Romeo Plank Road, Mount Clemens City Hall, One Crocker Blvd, and the Recreation Authority of Roseville and Eastpointe, 18185 Sycamore St. Roseville.
