Up to 10 Dodge Ram trucks stolen off Warren Assembly Plant storage lot
WARREN, Mich. (WJBK) - Police in Warren are searching for several cars after they were stolen right off the storage lot at the Warren Assembly Plant.
Police say up to 10 Dodge Ram pickup trucks with the Hemi engines were taken from the storage lot around 4 a.m. Thursday. The Warren Assembly Plant is located at 21500 Mound Road, between 8 and 9 Mile roads.
Warren Police Commissioner Bill Dwyer described it as "a convoy." He says the group likely used bolt cutters to get inside the fencing and 6-foot high cement walls. Once each driver in the crew had a truck, they smashed through the fence bounding onto Mound Road heading south.
Dwyer says they are looking into the possibility that the robbers had inside information, and that a current or former employee may be involved.
Each truck stickers around $30,000 - $35,000. Chrysler Fiat is working to identify which vehicles were stolen, saying in a statement to FOX 2:
"The Company will be assessing security measures at the location and implementing any necessary changes to prevent future incidents."
Dwyer says there is surveillance video that he hopes will assist his detectives.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Warren police department.
