Person of interest arrested in death of Melvindale man
(WJBK) - Randy Wimbley reports that a person of interest has been arrested in the death of David Carter.
The person in custody has a close connection to Carter according to relatives, but police have not confirmed the identity.
The arrest took place sometime Friday, Melvindale police told FOX 2. This coming the same day remains of Carter were discovered in Eagle Township, Ohio, alongside I-75. Investigators discovered other remains on Wednesday.
Carter's family is still trying to make sense of what happened. Police remain tight lipped about some of the details in this case as they continue their investigation.
David Carter, senior, went missing on Sunday. Police are investigating his disappearance as a homicide. Police announced Friday some of Carter's remains were found in Ohio. A Department of Transportation worker found them inside a sleeping bag along I-75 about 80 miles south of Toledo on Monday.
Melvindale police received word of the find Wednesday. DNA testing later confirmed the remains were those of Carter, 39. Earlier this week, his family members told FOX 2 the 39-year-old's body was found near his apartment in Melvindale.
The heavy police activity there was actually investigators processing the apartment for evidence in the event there was foul play. Carter's family suspected as much. Friday's announcement confirmed it.
"All we know for sure is that it was him that was in Ohio," said Tasia Jackson, Carter's sister. "That's all we know. we don't know anything else. It's just unbelievable because he just did not deserve that. He didn't deserve to not be here, not see his son."
FOX 2 spoke with Tasia Jackson at the River Rouge football game. She and her family were there to support Carter's son, David Carter Jr., playing his first game without his father in the stands.
