Authorities have accused a man of sexually assaulting a 22-year-old woman on an airplane after she fell asleep.

Authorities say the sexual assault happened on a Spirit flight that was coming from Las Vegas to Detroit, and landed Wednesday morning.

Authorities say the victim fell asleep leaning against the window and that she woke up to a hand in her pants, and noticed her pants and shirt were unbuttoned. She told authorities the man next to her had his fingers inside her pants, and that he stopped when she woke up.

She immediately told a flight attendant and Prabhu Ramamoorthy was taken into custody in Romulus, Mich. when the flight landed.

He initially told authorities that he was also asleep, and that the woman had fallen asleep on his knee and he wasn't sure where he had kept his hand.

He later told another agent, though, that he "might have" undone the woman's bra while playing with it, and that he had also cupped her breast over her clothes. He also indicated that he unzipped her pants part-way, and did put his finger into her pants. He stated that he tried to put his finger in her vagina but was not successful.

The complaint does not reveal where Ramamoorthy or the woman are from.

Ramamoorthy has a detention hearing scheduled at 1 p.m. Thursday.
