Police are on the lookout for a blue Ford Mustang stolen from the Flat Rock Assembly Plant.

The car theft happened at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant on Sunday with the thieves crashing through the parking lot gate for a dramatic exit.

The two new model Mustangs approached the gate to leave and security guard attempts to write down the vehicle VIN numbers, they hit the gas.

"The vehicles pull up and as the security guard left to check information, the vehicles crashed the gate and took off from the Flat Rock assembly site,"  Flat Rock Police Chief John Leacher.

After the stolen Mustangs plowed through the gate, a short time later they were spotted at a nearby Meijer where police attempted to stop them.

One got away, but the other Mustang, described as blue and white, leading police on a chase.

"That pursuit was terminated at Schafer Road based on traffic conditions and obviously safety concerns," said Leacher.

Police say the driver who led them on the chase is a black man wearing dreadlocks.  The other driver is described as a white man in his 30s about 6-feet tall weighing 200 pounds.

Police are not sure how they started the vehicles to leave the plant, but they have some idea as to how they might have entered the plant.

"Doing that same check, officers saw a hole in the fence possibly a hole cut in the fence on the perimeter and that's where they went through," Leacher said.

And investigators say this is not an isolated incident.

Woodhaven police tell FOX 2 that over the last two years that have investigated the theft of numerous high dollar Ford Mustangs from the Flat Rock Ford Assembly Plant Storage lot.

Investigators say it appears those cases are connected to the incident at the plant on Sunday afternoon.

FOX 2 reached out to Ford and they say they are fully aware of the situation and they are cooperating with the investigation.

Police say they know they are looking for at least two suspects possibly a third.
