WATCH: Oakland County Deputy pulls teen from burning car

OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. (WJBK) - An Oakland County Sheriff's Deputy put his life on the line to pull an 18-year-old from a raging car fire early Sunday.

Dashcam video released by teh Oakland County Sheriff's Office on Sunday shows the dramatic video as the officer is speeding down Baldwin Road.

The deputy was on patrol near Baldwin Road and Brown Road Sunday morning around 2:30 when a speeding driver flew by at over 100 MPH. The deputy raced down Baldwin Road to chase the driver but couldn't catch up.

As the speeding driver tried to turn left onto Maybee Road, the lost control on the gravel and slid into a group of trees and caught fire.

The deputy went into the raging inferno and broke the sunroof of the car and pulled the driver from the burning vehicle. 

The 18-year-old driver was pulled to safety and deputies said they smelled alcohol and marijuana on the man.

"This is a reminder of the types of incidents our Deputies can encounter each and every day," said Sheriff Michael J. Bouchard. "While our Deputy had been in pursuit of this speeding suspect, it was their first instinct to risk their own lives to save his individual from a burning vehicle. If not for the quick action of our Deputies, this individual may have not survived this incident."

The Orion Township Fire Department was called to the scene to put out the fire.

The 18-year-old driver had a broken femur and lacerations from the crash. He was taken to the hospital fro treatment and charges are pending blood results.
