Widow of fallen Oakland County Deputy speaks out
ORTONVILLE, Mich. (WJBK) - A vigil was held in Ortonville Sunday night to honor the fallen Oakland County Deputy.
Deputy Eric Overall was killed in the line of duty early Thanksgiving morning. The Ortonville community came together to honor and mourn the loss of Deputy Overall.
Before the vigil, people tied blue ribbons around posts and trees in the area for the men and women who wear the badge. Overall's wife, Sonja, struggles to stay strong after losing her loved one.
"My husband was amazing, courageous, and obviously the fact that he was an officer, giving his life doing what he loved to do," Sonja said. "He unfortunately lost his son three years ago to suicide; he didn't want any other families to go through that tragedy."
Overall is known in his community for his compassion, and for working with children.
"I knew the name, I knew the reputation, and I knew how important he was to our community, and I just felt I needed to do something," Courtney McClerren the vigil's organizer said.
