Woman, 7 months pregnant, shot 5 times in front of family home
DETROIT (WJBK) - A family is filled with questions after a 21-year-old was shot and killed on Detroit's west side Wednesday night. She was 7-months pregnant, and her baby boy also did not survive.
Twenty-one-year-old Bionka Lyons had just gotten home and had just gotten out of her car when someone opened fire on her.
Lyons parents told police they heard at least five shots around 11 p.m. They looked out the window and saw Bionka lying on the ground.
A source tells FOX 2 she was hit four times and once in the stomach.
Friends say she worked for the U.S. Postal Service. Co-worker Lee Straughter says the woman was always upbeat. He can't imagine a motive for the killing but says "it had to be personal."
She was shot outside her parents house, which is in the 10300 block of Crocuslawn Avenue. That's in a neighborhood near Chicago W and Wyoming Avenue.
Investigators spent several hours at the scene overnight and talked to neighbors. They even brought in a tracking dog that followed the suspect's scent to the corner of Crocuslawn. Police believe that's where the suspect hopped into a car and drove off.
Police do not have a description of the suspect or the suspect's vehicle.
"They better catch whoever did it, because I know there's nothing she did wrong," Straughter says.
Police aren't sure, either, of a motive at this time.
