Artist Tony Roko forms Art Foundation with Wolverine Human Services
(WJBK) - Artist Tony Roko has been named Detroit's Best Fine Artist four consecutive years running.
His career began when he was pulled off a Ford assembly line to paint murals in an effort to boost plant morale. After much success, he's sharing his passion for art with others.
He has partnered with Wolverine Human Services to form Art Foundation, which brings art programs and entrepreneurial training to disadvantaged youth and aspiring artists. The grand opening celebration is Thursday, October 12 at The Warehouse Studio in Plymouth. Dinner will be provided by Chef Joe Nader of the Detroit Lions.
Tony Roko and Chef Nader joined us on The Nine to tell us more about the event and the food. You can hear from them in the video player above, and get the chef's pork sugo recipe below.
The grand opening celebration has sold out, but The Warehouse Studio will be open to the public on Friday, October 13 from 4-9 p.m. and Saturday, October 14 from 12-5 p.m. For more information, click here.
