Defeat the Label Group Battles Bullying

Bullying in many forms continues to be a problem for youth all around Metro Detroit, but one group is working hard to change that, starting with a special event next week.

The second annual Community Conversation on Bullying, presented by Defeat the Label and Meemic Insurance, will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26 at Oakland Schools, 2111 Pontiac Lake Rd., in Waterford. Special guests include Kevin Epling, National Co-Director of Bully Police USA and leader of effort to get Matt's Law passed in Michigan; keynote speaker Michigan Supreme Court Justice Richard Bernstein; and Michigan State University Head Basketball Coach Tom Izzo.

The goal is to help facilitate open discussion on the reality of bullying and what can be done to eliminate it in our neighborhoods and schools. The discussion will be led by several featured representatives in the community, including educational, medical, legal, and mental health experts in order to supply the proper tools for everyone to be proactive in the fight against bullying.
