DETROIT (WJBK) - You can leave the car parked at home tomorrow because Friday, May 20 is Detroit Bike to Work Day. It's the 11th year of the event.
Organizers of the event created a map with suggested routes that start in the suburbs and end downtown at the Spirit of Detroit statue. Since not everyone works downtown, though, stops are also in Midtown and New Center. Here are the options:
- Spirit of Detroit statute on Woodward at Jefferson. Free bike parking is provided by Wheelhouse Detroit from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Old Main at Cass and Warren hosted by Wayne State University
- New Center Park at Second and W. Grand Boulevard hosted by Henry Ford Health System
Free snacks, coffee, vendors, local discounts and giveaways will be at these locations for those participating.
Looking for a place to shower after riding to work? Fitness Works next to New Center Park has agreed to open their doors during this event. Just bring a photo ID and a lock.
You can get route maps downtown here. Routes take off from Plymouth, Dearborn, Farmington, Brightmoor, Berkley, Royal Oak, Ferndale, Hamtramck, Sterling Heights, Clinton Township, St. Clair Shores, Eastpointe, and the Grosse Pointes.
