(WJBK) - The pastry chef at Royal Park Hotel was named 2017 Pastry Chef of the Year by the Michigan Chapter of The American Culinary Federation.
Chef Mark Slessor joined us in studio to tell us more about his pastries and how to make a gingerbread cookie this holiday season. His recipe incorporates the classic spices for this time of year, such as allspice, clove, eggnog and cinnamon. And, last but not least, the molasses goes in to tie everything up together and soften the cookie.
Chef Mark says this recipe will keep the cookies staying much softer than storebought kinds. Plus, it's easy enough to make at home and even include the kids.

Starting November 15, a portion of all dessert sales featured in Park 600 bar + kitchen will be donated to The Salvation Army. This is the perfect opportunity to taste more Chef Mark's festive confectionary creations. The new dessert menu features house favorites such as Dutch Apple Strudel, Traverse City Cherry Torte and Sticky Toffee Pudding.
