The Doctor Is In: Breast Cancer
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month.
Join Deena Centofanti and our experts from Beaumont Health System Wednesday, as they discuss breast cancer.
They will also discuss the benefits and options involving screening and supplementary screening tools such as MRI, ultrasound, tomosynthesis and molecular imaging.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, after skin cancer, breast cancer is the second most common cancer found among American women. Each year, more than 200,000 U.S. women develop breast cancer and nearly 40,000 die. Behind lung cancer, breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths among women in the U.S.

Beaumont hosts community events for Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Early detection saves lives; Beaumont's eight hospitals offer breast care services across Metro Detroit
In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, Beaumont Health is hosting community events across Metro Detroit.
The goal is to educate area women and their families about breast cancer with an emphasis on detection, wellness and nutrition.
"The importance of early detection (of breast cancer) cannot be stressed enough," says Nayana Dekhne, M.D., corporate director, Breast Care Program, Beaumont Hospital - Royal Oak. "The survival of breast cancer patients diagnosed after screening studies is significantly better than those found because of a lump or mass."
Beaumont Health offers mammography services at 17 locations in Metro Detroit.
Beaumont Health now offers a new, 3-D imaging technology called Digital Breast Tomosynthesis.
This state-of-the-art breast imaging is available at four of Beaumont's Breast Care Centers in Grosse Pointe, Royal Oak, Troy and West Bloomfield. It will also soon be available at Beaumont - Trenton.
To raise awareness, Beaumont is presenting seven community breast cancer education programs during October:
