This cable company's service lets you schedule your family's Wi-Fi
(WJBK) - Like any 21st Century family, monitoring internet usage can be a struggle for the Ponto family.
"I don't want them getting late-night texts or video messages, we know the importance of them not getting too much screen time," says Rebecca. She and her husband, Rob, are parents to 12-year-old Grace and 8-year-old Lily.
But the Pontos are Comcast customers, and recently Comcast rolled out xFi, a new way to manage your families wifi usage for free.
"Well the kids need to sleep; they shouldn't be on their devices all night. So when it's lights out, it's Wi-Fi out," says Rob.
Customizable by the day, you can turn Wi-Fi off for certain people at, say, 8 p.m. and then turn it back on at 7 a.m. There's also a content filter, as well as a way to see what devices are connected to your Wi-Fi and may be sucking the internet speed.
So, the parents love it. But what about the kids?
"I don't like it at all," says Lily.
Well, that's the be expected. But even at 8 and 12 years old, Grace and Lily say they understand it.
"Well sometimes I would rather be watching TV than sleeping, but I think it's safe," Grace says.
"Because they want us to be active and they don't want us to be couch potatoes," Lily says.
Whether it's bed time, dinner time or game time xFi is looking like a good "xperience" for all.
The service doesn't cost Comcast customers anything, as long as you are using their modem. Just head to your app store and look for the xFi app to get started.
