1 dead, 1 injured in shooting in Inkster
INKSTER, Mich. (WJBK) - One person has died after a double shooting in Inkster Thursday afternoon.
Two people were shot at close range. They had been sitting inside a minivan parked on Somerset Avenue near Harrison when two male suspects in a red Dodge Challenger pulled up at 4:30 p.m.
A brief conversation escalated, and the driver of the Challenger got out and fired several rounds into the minivan, investigators say.
Both victims were critically injured but Michigan State Police later said one of the victims had died. The second victim is still in critical condition.
"I'm thinking there was some type of activity that was going on between them; it doesn't appear to be just a random, somebody stopping by a firing shots," says Michigan State Police Lt. Michael Shaw.
The suspect is said to be driving a red Dodge Challenger but no license plate number is available. Michigan State Police is investigating the shooting.
About a mile away from that crime scene, a second shooting took place a few hours later. No injuries were reported, though, but police are looking for a gray or silver Saturn Ion that had three people inside, in connection with that shooting. They haven't said if they think it's connected to the earlier double shooting.
