Four victims wounded, 1 killed in shooting on Detroit's east side

Detroit police are at a Monday afternoon shooting scene where four people were wounded and one was killed near Outer Drive and Haverhill.

One person was killed, three others wounded in a shooting on Detroit's east side Monday afternoon near Outer Drive and Whittier.

The shooting took place just before 3 p.m. on Haverhill near Outer Drive, where a large police presence has currently swarmed the area. The area can be seen littered with multiple shell casings from bullets as investigators gather evidence.

The shooting took place at around 3:30 p.m. Monday when neighbors living near Southhampton and Haverhill say they couldn't believe what they heard.

"I heard pow pow pow, I was like no, no, no, the kids - you know what I’m saying?" said Sheba Hardy.

"It was so close like it was literally next door - that’s how close it sounded," said Chelsia Brown. "We all jumped up like what is going on?"

The shooting victims were taken to St. Johns Hospital just two miles away.

Police arrived quickly and taped off the scene, and with the help of a K9 they searched for evidence. There were roughly two dozen or so evidence markers in the street and sidewalk.

"They were really shooting ... it was like the Fourth of July," said Hardy.

Hours later roughly two miles away from the scene of the shooting, police were called as back-up at St. Johns Hospital.

Multiple police cars could be seen outside of the entrance and order was restored a few minutes later.

Police say the shooting stems from an altercation, and outside of one person shot and killed, investigators have no information on the other three victims condition.

They also are not releasing information on the suspects.

The incident came within an hour of another tragic shooting, where one off-duty Detroit police officer allegedly suffering a mental crisis shot and wounded two responding officers before being fatally injured when they returned fire.
