1 killed in accident involving school bus in Macomb County
RAY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJBK) - Authorities are investigating a fatal accident involving a school bus.
Authorities say one person, the female driver of the car, died in the accident, which happened on North Avenue near 28 Mile Road in Ray Township just before 6:30 a.m. Friday.
Sheriff Wickersham says the woman was going northbound on North Avenue when she crossed over and was hit by the bus in the southbound lane. SkyFOX was over the scene and it appears the school bus t-boned the vehicle.
Authorities didn't say what caused the driver to cross over into the other lane.
The school bus driver was taken to the hospital to be checked out. She was wearing a seatbelt.
Two high school students were on the bus but were not hurt. They have been picked up by their parents. Authorities originally said three students from New Haven Middle School were onboard.
Authorities have not yet given the name of the female victim, but say she was 37 years old. She was driving an older Buick Century and police say she was also wearing her seatbelt. Nobody else was in the car with her.
North Ave was closed from 27 Mile to 29 Mile Road.
