Police update after woman jumps into Detroit River, dies

A woman died Friday after jumping into the Detroit River to help another woman.

A woman died after she jumped into the Detroit River early Friday to help another woman.

Police were called to the river at Alfred Brush Ford Park near Lenox around 3:45 a.m. on reports that three women were in the water.

Police said the woman slipped into the river. The second woman jumped in to help her, then the third woman jumped in to help.

Woman dead after falling into Detroit River canal

One woman died and two others are hospitalized after falling into a canal on the Detroit River.

The woman who fell in was saved, but the first woman who jumped in to help, 20-year-old Diamond Shelton, died. She leaves behind a daughter.

Officers pulled all three women from the water. The two surviving women, who are 26 and 35, were taken to a hospital, police said.

Police are investigating if alcohol was a factor.
