11-year-old boy shot after drive-by on Detroit's east side

An 11-year-old boy was inside his home Saturday afternoon when a car pulled up and unloaded gun fire. Investigators say nearly a dozen shots were fired and one of those shots struck the boy.

Witness Charisse Hunter said she heard 2 sets of gunshots outside her neighbor’s home on Flanders Street on Detroit’s east side.

“The bullets didn't stop coming out of the gun,” said Hunter. “Then you heard the car just speed away.”

Police say the shooter or shooters were aiming for a specific house and they are calling it a drive-by.

The 11-year-old boy inside the house was shot in the leg. He was rushed to the hospital where he is currently in temporary serious condition.

Neighbors said they saw the child’s father run out the house screaming that his son has been shot.

“This is senseless and it needs to stop,” said Hunter. “One shooting after another involving babies.”

Detroit Police have not released a description of the suspect(s) or the vehicle.
