DETROIT (WJBK) - The family of 13-year-old Tyrone Gladden is now dealing with the news that their younger brother is paralyzed after being shot multiple times on Sunday.
"He was at the wrong place at the wrong time," said his brother Adam Gladden. "That's all it was."
"I just wonder why," said his sister Samantha Gladden. "It could have been anybody."
Police say the shooting took place as Tyrone and his friends we're leaving a neighborhood store. A truck pulled up and fired shots, hitting Tyrone as the teens were walking.
"We are having a challenge finding the two other witnesses, who are both minors," said Detroit Police Chief James Craig. "So we are asking for the public's help so that we can get to the bottom of this."
Tyrone's family says it's crucial that someone speak up, but they have their doubts.
"People ain't gonna say what they seen cause they're scared and they're afraid that next they will be the target," Samantha said.
The family says before Tyrone is released from the hospital they will have to make changes to their house because of his injuries.
They hope the community will help them as they try to move forward.
"If you are willing to care and willing to let us know that you hear our story ... God will bless you," Samantha said.
