2 killed, child rushed to hospital after crash by GM Poletown Plant
DETROIT (WJBK) - Authorities are investigating a fatal accident that happened near the I-94 service drive in Detroit. Thursday.
An official with the Detroit Fire Department says the woman driving the car and a female teen passenger were killed in the crash, and a child approximately 8 years old was taken to the hospital. We're told the child is in stable condition at this time.
The crash happened just before 7 a.m. at Chene and East Grand Boulevard, near the GM Poletown Plant and I-94 service drive. Police say the driver was speeding when the car crashed into a light pole. The impact appears to have split the car in half.
We're told the child and one of the victims were pinned in the car and had to be extricated. The other victim was ejected from the vehicle.
At this time, it's believed only one vehicle was involved in the crash. Authorities say the vehicle is a 1993 Ford sedan.
Authorities haven't yet given the names of the victims, but say the woman driving was 41 years old and the female passenger was a teenager. Police also say the victims are from Gaylord, Mich.
