DETROIT (FOX 2) - Detroit police are investigating a crash that killed two people overnight on Detroit's west side.
Police say the crash happened just after 12:15 a.m. near 8 Mile and Wyoming.
Police say the driver of a gray 2003 Audi lost control and hit a tree. The car then caught on fire. Witnesses told us and police that they saw a U-Haul chasing the Audi but police have not been able to confirm this.
Officials say 39-year-old Laquita Durant and 32-year-old Larry Hurst inside the Audi were killed in the crash.
People inside a nearby gas station grabbed a fire extinguisher and tried to help put out the car fire, but were unsuccessful. The crash was in front of the home of Theodore Orr, who went to grab his garden house to help.
"I knew that there was a fatality in it just because there was no room for there to be any driver in the vehicle," one of the witnesses told us.
The investigation is ongoing.
