Detroit police and first responders are at the scene of a high-speed fatal accident that has left 2 people dead Thursday.

The crash happened on Pickford near Greenfield on the city's west side where police say three people had to be extricated from the crash.

A gray Camaro speeding at about 80 miles per hour lost control, went airborne and landed on top of a burgundy Malibu, killing both people in the front of the car, according to Detroit Public Information Officer Jennifer Moreno.

There were four people and a dog inside the Malibu. The two passengers in the back seat were hospitalized and the dog not injured.

The driver of the Camaro, a 37-year-old man, has been hospitalized as well. The severity of their injuries is not known at this time.

The crash appears to have happened at Peterson Playfield. The two cars came to rest inside a parking area at the north side of the park.
