3 charged with animal abuse of caged dogs left inside Ecorse truck

Three people have been charged in connection with an animal abuse case involving 17 dogs inside a truck in Ecorse.

The dogs were found to be emaciated and neglected inside the truck, found by police in the 4300 block of Sixth Street on May 1 of last year.

David Scott McMurtrie, 42, Kayli Lynn Sparks - also known as Robinson - 29, are both of River Rouge and David Squire Bowling, 30, of Ecorse have been charged in the case.

Police found the dogs in the back of a rental truck in separate stacked cages in filth and extreme heat. The dogs were transported to an animal shelter for treatment while police say that at least three of them had been stolen from another rescue shelter. 

All three have been ordered to not have no contact with witnesses or animals, and cannot leave the state.

McMutrie has been given a $50,000 cash bond with a GPS tether if released on bond. He is charged with: 

1.    Animals - Abandoning/Cruelty to 10 or More Animals; 
2.    Animals - Abandoning/Cruelty to Four to Ten Animals; 
3.    Three counts of Receiving and Concealing Stolen Property - $200 < $1,000.*
4.    Felon in Possession - Firearm; 
5.    Felon in Possession of Ammunition; 
6.    Felony Firearm  

Sparks received a $25,000/10 percent bond with a GPS tether if released on bond. She is charged with: 

1.    Animals - Abandoning/Cruelty to 10 or More Animals;
2.    Animals - Abandoning/Cruelty to Four to Ten Animals;
3.    Three counts of Receiving and Concealing Stolen Property - $200 - $1,000.

Bowling has been given a $25,000/10 percent bond with a GPS tether if released on bond. He has been charged with:

1.    Animals - Abandoning/Cruelty to 10 or More Animals;
2.    Animals - Abandoning/Cruelty to Four to Ten Animals.
