(WJBK) - Three siblings are trying to cope after losing both of their parents within days of each other.
Melina Deda, and Nick and Olivia Miklea first lost their mother on November 7, 2017. Then their father, Doug Miklea, was found dead of a heart attack just two days later.
A Utica couple has taken the teens in. Their son has been friends with Nick for several years -- but Charles and Stacey Little recently discovered they are actually distant relatives.
Stacey recently discovered she is the distant cousin of the kids' mother. Now that she and her husband are taking in the kids -- they are going from a family of four to becoming a family of seven.
"Their mom and dad really meant the world to them," says Charles Little. "Not only were they parents, they were their best friends."
"I just ask everybody to say a prayer for them when you are sitting down for your holiday dinners," says Stacey Little. "But we are going to keep them busy, we are going to keep them surrounded by family, friends and love and that's how we're going to get through."
If you'd like to make a donation to help the siblings and the Littles, you can do so via their GoFundMe account here.
