3-year-old Inkster boy's death ruled homicide

The death of a 3-year-old Inkster boy whose father was arrested on child abuse charges has been ruled a homicide.

The Wayne County Medical Examiner determined Friday the child, Tyme Smith, died from blunt force trauma.

The boy’s 41-year-old father and his 21-year-old girlfriend were arrested Thursday on child abuse suspicion.

The father drove the critically injured boy to the hospital around 10:30 a.m. Thursday and he died in the emergency room.

Health officials called police after suspecting the boy may have been a victim of child abuse.

The father and his girlfriend told authorities the child fell down a flight of stairs but the police determined each person’s story didn’t match up.

"The injuries that we found and the type of injuries that we’ve seen preliminary were some injuries to the head, some injuries to the foot, foot area and there were possibly some internal injuries as well," said Inkster Police Chief William Riley.
