5-year-old missing overnight on Detroit's east side found safe
DETROIT (WJBK) - A 5-year-old boy who was missing overnight in Detroit has been found safe, police say.
Authorities were searching for Kendall Moses since around 12:45 a.m. Wednesday in the area of Greensboro Street and Whittier Avenue, which is between Kelly Road and the Edsel Ford Service Drive.
His mother told police some adults were sitting on the front porch in the 10400 block of Greensboro Street. The mom originally told police Kendall may have wandered outside through a side door.
Police say Kendall was found just before 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Detroit Police Captain Mark Thorton said while the adults were hanging out, the 5-year-old snuck into a relative's car and fell asleep in the backseat. The relative left the house later on and didn't see the boy.
The relative went home to bed and her phone wasn't charged, police said. When she plugged it in this morning and learned the boy was missing, and went to get in her car to drive back to the house and saw the 5-year-old pop up in the backseat.
The relative took the child to the 5th precinct, and the child will be evaluated at Children's Hospital as a precaution.
