6-month-old Miracle Murray's killer still on loose

DETROIT (WJBK) - It's been more than a year since a 6-month-old girl was murdered at the hands of an unknown gunman who opened fire on her family.

The family is holding out hope that the killer will be caught. 

Miracle Murray's mother Jennifer is still overcome with grief, unable to understand why her daughter's life was stolen so soon.

"My baby was four days away from turning 7 months. She was just learning how to crawl," she said.

The baby was killed on Saturday, April 16 of last year.

Family members were outside a home on Winthrop on the city's west side when the shooter walked up and opened fire.

"He had a hoodie on and it was tied all the way up. I couldn't see his face," Jennifer said. "I was shocked, why would somebody do that and why would they be shooting at a us?"

Miracle should have celebrated her second birthday by now, but instead, all her mother has are memories from her brief life.

"She was my human alarm clock. She would wake me up every morning when it was time for me to wake my other kids up for school, and I miss that a lot," she said.

Jennifer Murray says when she was pregnant with Miracle she was very sick. Doctors also told her the baby may be born with spina bifida, or have a hole in her stomach or back. But when she was born, Miracle was healthy - it's why her mom gave her that name.

"My baby didn't deserve this. She didn't even have a chance at life," she said.
