64 degrees in Detroit in late November could spell warm December

Detroit missed out on setting a record high for November 28th by just four degrees but could the late November warm up actually mean a warmer than usual December?

It's not rare to hit the mid 60s in November but it IS rare to hit the mid-60s this late in November. We're identifying late November as being the 20th through the 30th. In the past six years, we've been over 60 degrees just five times.

Do the math and that's a 7.5% chance of getting this warm this late in the year. It's pretty rare.

But what does it mean for the rest of fall and beginning of winter? Scientifically, nothing. Statistically, however, it means a lot.

In the past six years, when we've hit 60 degrees in late November, we've had a warmer than average month of December. When we hit average highs for these 10 days, or lower, we have had a colder December.

That's pretty great since December starts Friday. However, the forecast for December is all over the place. We'll just have to wait and see.

By the way, the last time we were this warm, this late in the year was back in 2006.
