88-year-old carjacking victim says she'd like to 'kill that s.o.b.'
LIVONIA, Mich. (WJBK) - An elderly woman was knocked to the ground and robbed of her car and her purse in a Walmart parking lot.
Gloria Kevelighan is battered and bruised - and talking about happened to her
"He pushed me and I fell flat on my face," she said. "I hit my head, I was bleeding and everything."
It was Tuesday afternoon and Gloria had just parked her car in a handicapped parking spot at the Walmart on Plymouth in Livonia.
She got out of her 2017 Ford Escape and that was when she was attacked.
"It was traumatic but it happened in seconds," she said. "It happened before I knew what was happening.
"I had my purse on my arm and he kept pulling so I finally let go, you know. I'm a mess but I'm alive and that's the important thing."
The suspect is a 38-year-old man from Sterling Heights, stole Gloria's purse and her SUV.
Investigators say he nearly ran her over when he drove away. A witness followed the stolen vehicle but lost sight of it in the area of Joy Road and Beech Daly.
Hours later police arrested the man and a 41-year-old woman from Lincoln Park. They were still in the area.
Gloria's Ford Escape and purse were located, minus $200 she had in her wallet. The 88-year-old woman said she did everything she could to fight off her attacker.
"I tried to hit him with my cane but I couldn't, he seemed to want to stay behind me," she said. "So I couldn't see his face, you know. I tried to turn around and sock him with my cane. If anyone bothers me, I use my cane."
And when FOX 2 asked Gloria what she would do if she ever came face to face with the man - she did not hold back.
"I'd kill the son of a b****," she said. "The way he pushed me, he didn't care, he was very strong."
Less than 24 hours later, Gloria is praising the Livonia Police Department.
"I'm glad you're doing well, I am sorry this happened to you," said Chief Curt Caid.
"I am too, but like I said, your people did a wonderful job," Gloria said.
Both suspects are expected to be arraigned on Thursday.
