90-year-old driver killed in head-on crash in Oakland Township

A 90-year-old Rochester Hills man died in a head-on collision after his vehicle crossed the center lane in Oakland Township.

The backstory:

The crash happened at 9:26 a.m. Sunday on Rochester Road at Lonesome Oak Drive in Oakland Township, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office. The second driver whose vehicle was hit, was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.

The driver of the truck, William Frederick Stanley Jr., was southbound on Rochester Road when his 2002 GMC Sierra crossed over and hit a northbound 2024 Dodge Ram being driven by a 44-year-old Oakland Township man head-on.

Investigators said Stanley was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. It was not immediately known if he was wearing a seat belt.

The roadway was extremely icy at the time of the crash. Neither drug nor alcohol use were believed to be factors, said the Oakland County Sheriff's Office/

The incident remains under investigation by the sheriff's crash reconstruction unit.
