Dramatic 911 tapes were released in the case of a deadly hit and run accident in Westland June 20.

Facing a judge Tuesday was the driver, 38-year-old Kimberly Garrett, accused of hitting and killing an 8-year-old boy.

That child, Kayale Fruge, was hit while walking home on Darwin Road near Delton Court.

The Romulus woman is facing five charges including second degree murder and reckless driving causing death.

Numerous 911 calls helped police catch Garrett in the moments after the June 20 accident.

On one call: "We have an emergency, a little kid just got hit and whoever hit him took off."

Fruge died in the hospital four days later. Police say the day Garrett hit him, she was under the influence speeding through Westland in her sport utility vehicle.

"She has pieces flying off her car," the caller said on the 911 call. "She is running people off the road."

Witnesses followed Garrett, not letting her get away.

But Garett continued to make a run for it, until:

"I have her car keys," the caller said.

The two witnesses  waited until police arrived.

Garrett faces up to life in prison. If you would like to support the family of Kayale Fruge go to the family's GoFundMe link: HERE.
