Abused dog left at groomer is ready for his forever home

A dog was abandoned at a Detroit groomer malnourished and covered with fleas.

After a long road to recovery, Debo is ready to find a forever home after everything he has been through.

"He probably was 15 pounds less than he is now, really shy, really scared," said Liz Blondy, owner of Canine to Five.

Debo is happily hanging out with Blondy in her Detroit shop Thursday. But Blondy says three weeks ago the pup was in rough shape.

"Somebody walked into Canine to Five with a dog who was severely malnourished and covered with fleas and had some wounds on his face," Blondy said.

Blondy says the man told them he wanted to get Debo a nail trim and a bath - but bolted.

"He went to his car to get his wallet and never came back," she said.

Canine to Five crew members then surrounded Debo with love. His fleas are now gone, his scrapes have healed and his vaccinations are up to date.

"We're lucky that people chose to drop him off here instead of an alley or an abandoned building," Blondy said.

She said that Debo appears to be a pit-boxer mix and about 2 years old. Blondy says, despite suffering from some sort of abuse, he is gentle.

"He is great with cats, he is great with all people, he does well in the car and he's great at home by himself," Blondy said. "He loves to cuddle in the bed at night, just is a real lover.

Blondy says whoever adopts Debo will get 10 free days of daycare at any of their three Canine to Five locations.

"We are going to miss him and hopefully the person who adopts him is close by," Blondy said.

But for those of you looking to adopt Debo, you may already have some competition.

Canine to Five is keeping Debo there for the next few days and is accepting applications. If you are interested in giving Debo a new home email Canine to Five (Detroit@caninetofive.com) or stop by and say hi.

"He needs to be in a home with somebody who wants him to be a true member of the family," Blondy said. "Who wants to take great care of him."

Debo will also be at Canine to Five's Detroit location for the next three days: 3443 Cass Avenue, Detroit.
