FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. (WJBK) - A boil water advisory has been lifted in northwest Farmington Hills Monday morning, ending all boil water advisories in Oakland County.
Authorities in Oakland County recommend everyone review their checklist of "What to do after a boil water advisory has ended" before drinking the water. You can find that checklist here.
Residents are encouraged to flush their water, both cold and hot. Authorities say run cold water for five minutes, and run hot water on all faucets to clear untreated water in your hot water tank. You can get more information on that here, along with the full checklist for residents.
Schools, healthcare facilities, restaurants and other businesses can also find their checklist here.
The boil water advisory affected a dozen communities in Oakland County last week, and some into the weekend. Schools and healthcare facilities were also affected.
The Great Lakes Water Authority says it experienced a failure of a 48-inch diameter water transmission pipe one week ago that serves customers in the western part of Oakland County. The water main break happened on 14 Mile Road between Farmington and Drake.
This week-long incident impacted about 305,000 Oakland County residents.
Authorities say this serves as a reminder for families and businesses to have an emergency plan in place, as well as a minimum of a three-day supply of bottled water and non-perishable food on hand.
