(FOX 2) - To ease the burden on commuters dealing with increased traffic, tolls on the Ambassador Bridge have been reduced.
Officials announced Monday that commuter tolls will be slashed from $4.60 and $4.00 down to $2.60 -- every day and all day, in either direction.
Current commuter card holders will be automatically enrolled in a new Ambassador Bridge Premier Commuter Card Program. Travelers prepay their toll fees online.
The decrease follows the closing of the Detroit Windsor Tunnel, the closing of I-75 and a shortage of staff and available lanes along the bridge itself.
Additionally, a third lane will be open for commuters Canada to the U.S. weekday mornings from 6:30-8:30 a.m., and a third lane for commuters from the U.S. to the Canada will be open weekday afternoons from 4-6 p.m.
New commuters can stop at the Ammex Duty Free Store on the U.S. side of the bridge to register for the Ambassador Bridge Premier Commuter Program.
