Beloved grandfather dies after 3-car crash allegedly caused by Uber driver on Hall Road

David Shutt was just running errands on December 19th when police say an Uber driver slammed into his car on Hall Road in Macomb Township.

Shutt, 55, was severely injured and later died at an area hospital Thursday, two weeks after the crash. The Uber driver and his passenger suffered minor injuries, while a third driver was not hurt.

"He was a good man, he was helpful, he was there when you needed him," said Jessica Hartman, Shutt's daughter.

David Shutt was affectionately known as "Fuzzy."

"My dad has a big, bushy mustache - always has - and we were trying to differentiate between him and my brother, who had the same name," Hartman said.

The Macomb County man only had one grandchild — a boy named Zach. Hartman, remembers the moment she told her dad that she was pregnant, more than a decade ago.

"He came back to me the next day (saying) 'We’ve decided we want to be called 'Grandma Bear' and 'Grandpa Fuzzy' and that was the end of it," she said. "The minute he picked him up my kid when he was born, it as game over - a puddle of mush, a puddle of love."

While Shutt’s family is grieving, they’re also trying to figure out how to pay for his funeral. A GoFundMe page has been set up for donations.

"He liked to do things from behind the scenes, he was a very genuine person. So if he helped you, he didn’t want anyone to make a big to-do about it," Hartman said. "He was very dearly loved and it was clear in his own Fuzzy way, that he loved us all back."
