Body of missing Jackson man found inside vehicle submerged in Washtenaw County retention pond

A missing Jackson man's body was recovered over the weekend after a vehicle was spotted submerged in a retention pond off I-94 in Washtenaw County.

According to Michigan State Police, the 38-year-old man was reported missing Thursday. Chelsea police and MSP troopers searched near Sylvan Crossing Mobile Home Community just outside of Chelsea after the man's phone location showed he may be in the area. However, they didn't find him.

Chelsea police continued searching the area and eventually noticed an antenna sticking out of a frozen retention pond at Sylvan Crossing around 8 a.m. Sunday. Officers discovered that the antenna was coming from a pickup truck, and the roof of the truck was level with the ice.

Dearborn police say a driver who hit and critically injured a Fordson High School student on Friday ran a red light on Ford and Schaefer.

The Wastenaw County Dive Team was able to use a chainsaw to break up the ice, get into the vehicle, and remove the victim's body before the truck was pulled from the pond.

The medical examiner responded and confirmed that the body was the missing man.

According to MSP, it appears the man became disoriented and drove into the pond. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
