Border Patrol agent shot, killed during traffic stop in Vermont

A United States Border Patrol agent was shot and killed in Vermont on Monday, according to The Department of Homeland Security. 

What we know:

The shooting happened at about 3:15 p.m. local time.

The agent was shot and killed while performing a traffic stop in Newport, Vermont, the DHS told FOX News. 

There are two suspects, one of whom is dead. The second suspect was injured and was taken into custody. 

The FBI will be leading the investigation. 

The shooting took place on Interstate 91 in Coventry, Vermont and the highway will be closed between exit 27 in Newport and exit 26 in Orleans. Drivers have been advised to take alternate routes, according to the Vermont State Patrol. 

What we don't know:

Officials have not stated why the traffic stop was executed and any details about the suspect or the agent have yet to be released as of this report.
