Boy found unresponsive in Southfield hotel pool

A child is fighting for his life after being found unresponsive in a Southfield pool this Memorial Day.

Just after 6 p.m. Monday, police responded to reports of a drowning at the Baymont Inn on Northwestern Highway.

A witness tells us a group of kids was playing in the water when one child stepped on the boy's body on the bottom of the pool.

"I just saw this other person, he was just walking and swimming. And he walked past the person, he stepped on him," says D'Andre Hunter. "He lifted him up and put him on the side, and they started to make him come back and then EMS came."

As of last check, the boy, who we're told is 9 years old, is still in critical condition.

The hotel manager said he's watched the video several times, trying to figure out how the boy went under, unnoticed for so long, in the crowded pool. The manager says he was there one minute and gone the next.

Police are reviewing the video as well.

Police are asking anyone with information about what happened to give them a call.
